Swimming Data

At present 1:3 children leave primary school unable to swim the national curriculum requirement of 25m. This is the only compulsory element with the Physical Education National Curriculum. Only 3 of our schools in the trust fall into this category and 2 of the schools have identified this as an issue and are amending their provisions for this academic year.

Last academic year, 3 of the trust schools swam each year for at least half a term from reception until year 6. These 3 schools all have a percentage above 93% achieving the distance of 25m (equating 2 children). This year a further 4 schools will be offering swimming from reception to year 6. The other 2 schools within the trust achieving 96.5% and 92% swam within KS2 only. However, they ensure that the pupils who do not achieve the 25m have extra top up lessons.

Small cohorts within schools can have a big impact on percentages; therefore it is important to look at the number of pupils on roll as well.

All 10 schools know that their year 6 children can swim the required distance through testing at the end of the swimming term. Depending on the swimming provider and length of time that the children swim, PSA is achieved.

9 out of 10 schools have published this data on the website as requested from the DfE, the 1 school that has not published this information does not have this available.

 *subject to CMAT pool completion

Due to the location and travelling time to the CMAT swimming pool some of our trust schools will not be able to commit to using the facilities. As a trust we recommend that if schools fall below the national average of 1:3 swimmers achieving 25m, this need to be identified as an area of improvement on your PE and Sport premium spending.
